2011 Sailing School Schedule
The 2011 Learn-to-Sail Program features
five weeks of classes for beginner through advanced sailors beginning June 27
and ending September 2. All classes are taught by
US SAILING certified instructors in CGRA's fleet of Optimist Prams, O'pen
Bic dinghies, and Lasers.
In addition, CGRA is hosting
youth sailing clinics and a
youth racing program for youngsters with prior sailing
experience. CGRA will again be hosting Thursday
Open Sail Evenings starting June 23. All sailing activities meet at the swim beach in Cascade Locks Marine Park.

Registration for all classes is online. To register for a class, click on the
link below the course description for the class you wish to enroll in. For more

Scholarships Available CGRA offers partial scholarships to
help youngsters in need of financial aid get started in sailing. CGRA
scholarships cover one-half of the registration fee for qualifying applicants.
To apply for a CGRA scholarship, check the "Applying for scholarship?" box on
the online registration form (applicants will be asked to provide proof of
participation in the school lunch program).
Beginning Sailing (4 days)
Age 8-14, Fee $150 per session
All sailors will learn basic sailing skills, including rigging, safety and knot tying. Classes
are taught in 8-foot Optimist Prams and 9-foot O'pen Bic dinghies designed
for small children. Meets Monday through Thursday from 9 am-noon. Limit 10 children per
session.

Intermediate Sailing (4 days)
Age 8-14, Fee $150 per session
Prerequisite: Beginner class and/or instructor approval.
Sailors build upon boat handling and seamanship skills learned in the Beginner class. Classes
are taught in Optimist Prams
and O'pen Bic
dinghies. Meets Monday through Thursday from 1-4 pm. Limit 10 children per
session.

CGRA/VLSC Sailing Classes
CGRA is partnering with Vancouver Lake Sailing Club to bring the following
sailing classes to Cascade Locks. All classes run 5 days, 4 hours a day, and are
taught exclusively in O'pen Bics and Laser 4.7s. These classes are appropriate
for youngsters seeking a more intensive sailing experience.
Beginning Sailing Level 1 (5 days)
Age 8-12, Fee $220 per session Sailors will be taught basic
sailing skills including rigging, safety, and boat handling. Classes will be
taught in O’pen Bic dinghys designed for fun, trouble free sailing. Meets
Monday-Friday from 9 am-1 pm. Limit 15 children per session.

Intermediate Sailing Level 2 (5 days)
Age 8-17, Fee $220 per session Prerequisite: Beginner
class and/or instructor approval. This Level 2 class builds on the
skills learned in the Beginner Class and develops more confident sailors.
Juniors age 8-12 will sail O’pen Bics and youths age 13-17 will sail Laser 4.7
performance dinghies. Session 1 meets Monday-Friday, 2-6 pm. Session 2 meets
Monday-Friday, 9 am-1 pm. Limit 15
children per session.

Advanced Sailing Level 3 (5 days)
Age 8-17, Fee $220 per session Prerequisite:
Intermediate class and/or instructor approval. This Level 3 class builds
on the Beginning and Intermediate skills and includes more advanced maneuvers,
boat handling, and racing skills. Juniors Age 8-12 sail O’pen Bics, Youths Age
13-17 sail in Laser 4.7 performance dinghies. Meets Monday-Friday, 2 pm-6 pm. Limit
15 children per session.

O'pen Bic Performance Racing Camp
August 24-26 Age 8-17, Fee $165
This three-day camp for experienced sailors will hone sailing, boat
handling, and racing skills with beach chalk talks, on the water drills and
practice, and lots of fun sailing. Great preparation for the Bic UnRegatta and
the CIRC Gorge Regatta the following weekend. Bring a sack lunch each day.
Meets Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 9 am-4 pm.

Columbia Gorge Junior Sailing Team
Age 8-17, Fee $100 per session New this year, CGRA is offering a
Junior Sailing Team program for experienced youth sailors to sail together in a
small group while honing sailing and racing skills with a US Sailing certified
instructor. The focus will be on individualized coaching, racing skill
improvement, and group fun. Interested youth sailors may apply online on the
CGRA website.

This summer CGRA will host Community Sailing on Thursday evenings from June
23 through August 25 at the Cascade Locks Marine Park beach. Community members
interested in sailing are invited to join us to sail in the CGRA Lasers, Bics,
and Optis under the supervision of a US
SAILING certified instructor. All participants must be at least 8 years old
and be registered with a signed waiver* prior to sailing. A $5 registration fee
is requested to cover insurance (optional). Register on-site with the Sailing Director.
