2012 Sailing Class Schedule 

CGRA's 2012 Learn-to-Sail Program features four weeks of classes and camps for beginner through advanced sailors beginning June 25 and ending August 9. All classes are taught by US SAILING certified instructors in CGRA's fleet of Optimist Prams, O'pen Bic dinghies, and Lasers.

In addition, CGRA is hosting youth racing clinics for youngsters with prior sailing experience. CGRA will again be hosting Thursday Open Sail Evenings starting June 28. All sailing activities meet at the swim beach in Cascade Locks Marine Park.

Scholarships Available
CGRA offers partial scholarships to help youngsters in need of financial aid get started in sailing. CGRA scholarships cover one-half of the registration fee for qualifying applicants. To apply for a CGRA scholarship, check the "Applying for scholarship?" box on the online registration form (applicants will be asked to provide proof of participation in the school lunch program).

Learn-to-Sail Classes

Beginning Sailing (4 days)
Age 8-14, Fee $150 per session
No experience necessary
Young sailors are introduced to the basic sailing skills, including rigging, safety and knot tying. Classes are taught in 8-foot Optimist Prams and 9-foot O'pen Bic dinghies designed for small children. Meets Monday through Thursday from 9 am-noon. Limit 10 per session.

Intermediate/Advanced Sailing (4 days)
Age 12-18, Fee $150 per session
Prerequisite: Beginner class and/or instructor approval
Sailors build their boat handling and seamanship skills practicing sailing drills and short course racing under a coach's supervision. Classes are taught in O'pen Bic and Laser dinghies. Meets Monday through Thursday from 1-4 pm. Limit 10 per session.

CGRA Junior Sailing Team
Age 8-17, Fee $35 per session, $150 for 5, $200 for 8
Prerequisite: Beginner class and/or instructor approval
CGRA is again hosting a Junior Sailing Team program for experienced sailors to sail together in a small group while honing sailing and racing skills under the supervision of a US Sailing certified coach. The focus is on individualized coaching, racing skills improvement, and group fun. Practice sessions are Tuesday evenings, 6-8 pm. Participants may pay for individual sessions, or buy a punch card for 5 or 8 sessions.

Youth Sailing Clinics

WIND Youth Clinic
July 10-12
Age 12-18, Fee $350
The WIND Youth Clinic is a comprehensive training clinic for young sailors ages interested in developing the skills to compete at a high level. Participation is open to Laser, Laser Radial, and Laser 4.7 sailors. Coached by an accomplished staff of champion sailors, this immersion program will focus on performance sail trim, tactics and boat-handling in classroom and on-the-water sessions. Ripple Opti Clinic
July 24-26
Age 8-15, Fee $325 (Championship Fleet)/$295 (Green Fleet)
Three-day training clinic designed to challenge Opti sailors of all levels with wind, waves, and a world-class coaching staff. The emphasis is on boat speed, boat handling, tactics and strategy in a heavy air environment. For more information, click here.

O'pen Bic Performance Racing Camp
August 23-24
Age 8-17, Fee $160
This two-day camp for experienced sailors will hone sailing, boat handling, and racing skills with beach chalk talks, on the water drills and practice, and lots of fun sailing. Great preparation for the Bic UnRegatta the following weekend. Bring a sack lunch each day. Meets Thursday and Friday from 9 am-4 pm. For more information, click here.

Open Sail Evenings

This summer CGRA will host Community Sailing on Thursday evenings from June 28 through August 30 at the Cascade Locks Marine Park beach. Community members interested in sailing are invited to join us to sail in the CGRA Lasers, Bics, and Optis under the supervision of a US SAILING certified instructor. All participants must be at least 8 years old and be registered with a signed waiver* prior to sailing. A $5 registration fee is requested to cover insurance (optional). Register on-site with the Sailing Director.
